CRESCO3

Description of the CRESCO3 cluster located in Portici, decommissioned on March 13, 2018.

Note

The decommissioned nodes of the CRESCO3 cluster have been generally reused in the Cloud infrastructure of the DTE-ICT division. Two chassis, for a total of 8 compute nodes, are currently operating at the Italian Antarctic base as part of the system: CRESCO3 in Antarctica.

Cluster Features

The CRESCO3 cluster located in Portici is a computing system composed of 84 servers with the following characteristics:

  • 2 AMD® sockets with Opteron® 6234 processors, 12 cores, 2.4 GHz, 64 GB RAM

  • 1 × 500 GB SATA II disk

  • InfiniBand QDR interface

  • Two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

  • 1 video card

  • BMC/IPMI 2.0 support and software for remote console management

Overall, the system provides a total of 2016 CPU cores interconnected through a low-latency network based on InfiniBand 4xQDR at 40 Gbps, managed by a Qlogic 12800 switch.

The architecture of the AMD Opteron 6234 processor is illustrated in the following diagram.
