CRESCO5F
Cluster Features
The CRESCO5F cluster located in Frascati is a computing system composed of 8 nodes, some equipped with GPU accelerators and one with FPGA.
Node configuration:
cresco5fx001 : front-end node with 2 NVIDIA A100 GPUs
cresco5fx002 : node with 2 NVIDIA A100 GPUs
cresco5fx003–004 : nodes with 1 NVIDIA A100 GPU
cresco5fx007–009 : nodes without GPU and without FPGA
cresco5fx010 : node with Intel FPGA
General hardware configuration of the nodes:
2 sockets with 16 cores AMD EPYC 7313 processors at 3.0 GHz
256 GB RAM (8 GB per core)
1 × 500 GB SATA II disk
InfiniBand MLX5 100 Gb/s interface (≈80 Gb/s effective bandwidth)
Two 10 GbE interfaces
BMC/IPMI support and software for remote console management
The cluster provides 256 CPU cores interconnected through a low-latency network based on Mellanox InfiniBand EDR (100 Gb/s) managed by a Mellanox switch.
Nodes run the operating system:
This is a newer major release compared to CentOS 7.3 (CRESCO6) and CentOS 7.8 (CRESCO4). Users are therefore advised to verify the portability of their codes and recompile them if necessary.
Each node also provides a local scratch disk: /tempwork
The local scratch area is 1 TB NVMe.
Note
Access to the /tempwork area must be requested through a support ticket.
The architecture of a CRESCO5F compute node is represented in the following scheme:
