Conditions of Access to the CRESCO Computing Infrastructure for External Users ================================================================================================================= ENEAGRID is ENEA’s scientific computing infrastructure. The ENEAGRID infrastructure is developed and managed by the `ICT Division `_. The infrastructure is distributed across several ENEA research centers located throughout Italy. Its core consists of the CRESCO HPC systems, a family of clusters based on the x86_64 architecture (and ppc64le on the xcresco cluster) running the Linux operating system. The main cluster **CRESCO8** is installed at the ENEA Research Center of Portici and currently represents the flagship system of the CRESCO HPC infrastructure. CRESCO4 was acquired through funding from the TEDAT PON “Ricerca” 2007–2013 project, while the initial CRESCO project was co-funded by MIUR within the PON “Ricerca” 2000–2006 framework. The ENEAGRID/CRESCO infrastructure is used within ENEA to carry out research and development activities across a wide range of scientific and technical disciplines. Access to CRESCO/ENEAGRID computing resources by external users is primarily reserved for public institutions and private companies that are partners of ENEA in Research and Development projects, including projects funded at the national or European level. Based on an evaluation of scientific relevance and resource availability, access may also be granted, free of charge and within defined limits, to Universities, public or private research institutions, and higher education institutes upon request. Researchers and, more generally, users wishing to access CRESCO/ENEAGRID computing resources are required to comply with a set of rules intended to ensure the proper use of advanced computing systems. These may be summarized as follows: - Use of the SLURM scheduling system for workload distribution across the infrastructure and to prevent front-end node overload; - Proper use of online data storage, subject to quota policies defined according to ENEA/DTE-ICT requirements and priorities (for example: ensuring that stored data are consistent with declared activities and avoiding access patterns that may overload storage systems); - Responsible use of identification and authorization systems, without sharing access credentials with third parties or bypassing the official registration and identification procedure. Users must keep their contact information (telephone number and email address) up to date for ENEAGRID administrators. .. note:: Under these conditions, the creation of an account for users external to ENEA may be requested by submitting an official document on the letterhead of the applicant’s institution, signed by the direct supervisor, and addressed to: :: Head of ICT ENEA Lungotevere Thaon di Revel, 76 00196 Rome Italy The document must be produced in PDF format and attached to an email sent to: **hpc-account-request@hpc.enea.it.** The document must specifically include: 1. The motivation for requesting access to the CRESCO HPC systems; 2. A formal commitment to comply with points described above; 3. A brief description of the research activity and objectives for which the computing infrastructure is requested, including the expected duration of use; 4. An approximate indication of the required computing resources, expressed in CPU hours, number of cores, and online storage space (in GByte); 5. A declaration indicating whether the work is or will be supported by explicit funding for the use of computing resources, including national or international projects. In such cases, the use of computing resources will be subject to specific agreements to ensure appropriate compensation for ICT resources and/or to define ICT participation in the project activities; 6. A declaration of willingness to acknowledge ENEAGRID/CRESCO in scientific publications. The form and extent of acknowledgment (acknowledgments, co-authorship, or other forms) will be determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the relevance of computing time and/or the level of collaboration and technical support provided by ICT; 7. A mandatory commitment to cite CRESCO/ENEAGRID in the acknowledgments section of any publication resulting from the use of CRESCO/ENEAGRID computing resources and to notify ICT of submission/acceptance of such publications through the submission of a specific “Publication Notification” ticket in the ticketing system: https://gridticket.enea.it The acknowledgment must include a bibliographic reference to a recent ICT conference proceeding describing both the ENEAGRID infrastructure and the architecture of the latest-generation CRESCO system. The currently suggested acknowledgment wording is: The computing resources and the related technical support used for this work have been provided by CRESCO/ENEAGRID High Performance Computing infrastructure and its staff [1]. CRESCO/ENEAGRID High Performance Computing infrastructure is funded by ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development and by Italian and European research programmes. .. important:: [1] F.
